My Review of Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks… Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. Something worse than the Arum has come to town… The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes… I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me? No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

It’s not often that a sequel turns out to be better than its predecessor, but as usual, Jennifer simply astounded me with Onyx. I actually think that with each book in a series that I read from her gets better and better! It was hilarious, romantic, mysterious, dangerous, touching, and a million other adjectives I can go on and on with.

From the very beginning, Jennifer draws you in with her quick wit and steady flow of sarcastic humor that makes me love her writing and her characters so much. I honestly fell in “girl love” with Katy after reading Onyx because she is such a fierce character, especially considering she’s “only human” in such a “non-human” situation. But you do get to see her do some pretty kickass things, particularly involving a knife, that’ll make you go “F-yeah, Katy!”.

The best part of Onyx, for me?! The fact that it changed my perspective of Daemon as a character and his relationship with Katy.

Although I really did like Obsidian, one of the things that turned me off was how quickly and unquestioningly Katy and Daemon fell for each other. Daemon didn’t really strike me as a guy I could easily fall for and I couldn’t get on board with other fans and how they fell for him instantly. But after reading Onyx, that changed COMPLETELY! You really get to know Daemon a lot more and his relationship with Katy develops on so many levels that they have easily become one of my favorite bookish couples. Here, Katy questions Daemon’s true intentions and Daemon does wonders at showing her if what they feel for each other is because of their “connection” or if it’s something deeper and more meaningful. There is one particular scene, after a very climactic slew of events, where Daemon and Katy have a truly touching moment that goes beyond physical attraction and showed me just how real their relationship is. Daemon is truly a force to be reckoned with. Not only is this guy wicked hot, super powerful, and crazy slick, but he’s also surprisingly sweet, passionate, and dedicated to protecting whatever he cherishes most in life. Not to mention he knows how to make you laugh and push your buttons in all the right ways *wink wink*. How can you not fall for a guy like that?!

Now love and romance are all well and dandy, but there’s got to be more to a good book, right?! Right!

Jennifer dives deeper into the mysterious motives of the DOD. Why do they allow the Luxen to coexist with humans as they do? What exactly do they know about them and the Arum? This is some serious “conspiracy theory” stuff here, people! And I loved every minute of it. With Obsidian, there were some crazy moments here and there, but with Onyx, it was straight up action-packed! The “big players” of the DOD surface in this story and you meet some new, and some old, acquaintances along the way. The whole mystery of what happened to Daemon’s brother Dawson in Shadows comes into play here, in a major way, and Katy’s new friend Blake changes all of their lives in ways I couldn’t even believe. Some surprising enemies come into light and things are a lot more complex that anyone could’ve imagined, it’s brillant. I’m so fascinated by this world that Jennifer has created, I just can’t get enough.

Speaking of Blake, let me just say that his interactions with Daemon were by far the most hilarious moments in the book, and also some of my favorite moments. I swear, I’m laughing right now just thinking about them!

Jennifer is truly a master at world-building, her writing is impeccable, and her characters?! Wow! Just, wow! You seriously fall for each of them, boy or girl, lead or supporting. Not only do her main characters make you swoon and cheer for them, she works wonders on her supporting cast and when she wants you to feel something for one of them, she does it! Oh, that ending! My heart!

If you thought Obsidian was awesome, just wait until you get your hands on Onyx. A true knock-your-fuzzy-socks-off book that will have you begging for more. Always remember the mantra when you read ANY of Jennifer’s books: You won’t be able to put this down!

A Frigid Giveaway & Kyler's POV

5:56 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

In-keeping with all the Frigid goodness Jen has been throwing at us lately, she's hosting a very HUGE giveaway on her blog for a ton of cool prizes. And yes, the giveaway is international.

That's just a whole pile of awesome, isn't it? Go ENTER now!

And to top it all off, we've got a Kyler POV for you to enjoy!

I focused on the deep oak beams, desperately trying to get the image of an almost naked Syd out of my mind. Wasn’t working. The beams morphed into hips and breasts.
Jesus. H. Christ.
Holy Mother of God, that was not what I’d expected when I’d opened that door. I also hadn’t expected Syd to be so… curvy under her clothes. She was a tiny thing, barely reaching my chest, and I’d assumed she was all straight lines and little else since the last time I’d seen her so damn close-to-naked was in junior high school. Since then, I hadn’t even seen her in a bathing suit.
Boy, was my assumption so far off it was ridiculous.
The girl had hips on her, sweetly flaring out from a narrow waist. For someone so short, her legs looked a mile long when there was nothing covering them. And those breasts?
I scrubbed my palm across my jaw and closed my eyes.
They were small, but the size fit her perfectly, and I bet they were perky as hell under that chaste white bra, and the tips would be a sweet dusky pink—whoa. What in the hell? I needed to stop thinking about her breasts. Totally off-limits.
But because I was a dude and once that image took hold, I pictured them in my hands and her back arching into my touch— “Shit,” I growled. Lust stirred with a vengeance—that heated, almost-crazed kind of lust that never amounted to anything good.
And the way she’d been looking at me? No. No way. I had to be imagining that shit, because this was Syd, for chrissakes. She was my Syd, but never in that way. And there was no way she could be looking me with those damn baby blue eyes of hers filled with want. Like she had wanted me to do something about the fact she’d been standing there with barely anything on.
Like she had wanted me to see her.
Aw, hell, I had seen her.
And there was a good chance I was losing my damn mind, because Syd had never looked at me like that. She just simply didn’t think of me that way, or—as far as I knew—any guy that way. Not since that punk-ass Nate had screwed her over. Ever since then, she just didn’t date. And I was okay with that, because I hadn’t met one guy who was good enough for her, and especially not me, not after what she’d said in the car on the way up here.
I pushed off the door and crossed the bedroom. Yanking my hoodie over my head, I tossed that and the shirt underneath onto the bed.
I headed into the shower, not because I really needed one, but because I just had to do something before I really did do something stupid.

New Frigid Teasers

10:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Jen is in a round of edits for Frigid right now and she's shameless posting teasers for fans to revel in.

Here's one she posted to her Facebook recently:

I had to make a terrible choice and quick. Drop the eReader or the cappuccino.
Both things were necessary for survival, but the eReader was like a precious whittle baby, so fragile and important to me.
Tightening my hold on the eReader, the coffee hit the floor and went splat, spreading dark liquid across the carpet like a gruesome crime scene.

My Review of Shadows by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable. Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved. Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.
Links

I knew what to expect going into this, but in the end I was still like “OMG?!?! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” (in a good way). Oh Jen, you sure know how to stir up some crazy emotions with your suspense, drama, romance, and fantasy-filled books.

In this prequel, you get to meet Dawson, Daemon & Dee’s brother who is quite the swoon-worthy piece. You get to revel in the romance of Dawson and Bethany, seeing how fall for each other and risk everything in the name of love. Their love was very pure and sweet, but also intense and intimate and I think Jen did a stellar job at creating such a memorable love story. This was truly a touching and sad one, but I loved every minute of it. You also get to know Daemon a little more and realize why he’s so protective of his siblings. There were a ton of hilarious parts, with some important characters showing up, always adding depth and intrigue to the scene.

All in all, it was a quick read and definitely worth your time. Like I always say, anything Jen writes is pure genius and a “must-read” and Shadows isn’t any different. A perfect companion novella to the series and an amazing story on its own. Loved it!

A Hilarious Frigid Teaser & More Pics from the Photo Shoot

3:12 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

Jen posted some more pictures from the Frigid Cover photo shoot today:

and a freaking hilarious teaser from the book itself:
As soon as we stepped outside, harsh wind smacked me in the face. I gasped. “Holy crap, it’s cold as balls out here!”
“Balls are not cold, Syd. Trust me,” said Kyler. “Didn’t I say you should wear a coat?”
“Bah!” I pulled free and started stomping through the fresh snow that had fallen since we went in. It was only a couple of inches, but I was kicking it up everywhere. “We should have driven down here.”
“You wanted to walk.” He pulled his hoodie over his head. “Here—put this on.”
I shook my head and started down the hill, but Kyler sighed as he stepped in front of me, his jaw set in a determined line. “Lift your arms.”
“What if I say no?”
His lips twitched as he held his hoodie out. “I’ll hold you down and dress you.”
That kind of sounded fun. Actually, Kyler holding me down and undressing me sounded even better. I sighed, completely lost in the fantasy. We could be like snow bunnies getting it on.
Kyler stepped closer, tipping his chin down. “What are you thinking about?”
“Snow bunnies,” I replied.
He let out a deep laugh. “Come on, lift your arms and tell me why you drank so much. Please?”
“Since you said please…” I lifted my arms and felt him step forward. He slipped the opening over my head and then moved onto the arms. “I just wanted to have fun.”
“Nothing wrong with that.” He got my left arm into the sleeve and then he started working on the right arm, his brows furrowed in concentration. “But you had fun before without drinking so much.”
“So?” I balled my fist, and he sighed, trying to work the sleeve around it. I giggled as I straightened out my hand. “What’s the big deal?
“There isn’t one.” He tugged the hoodie down and it swamped me, ending just above my knees. “There you go.”
When I looked up, he’d stepped back and he had this strange look on his face—like approval. “Aren’t you cold?”
He shrugged, stretching the material of the black thermal he’d had on under the hoodie. “I’ll be fine.”
I opened my mouth to say okay, but something totally different came out. “I don’t want to be boring anymore.”
“What? Shit.” Kyler thrust his fingers through his hair. “Baby, you’re not boring.”
“Yes. I am.”
His eyes pinched at the corners. “Sydney, you are so far from that. I shouldn’t have said that shit in the car.
You’re perfect—”
“Just the way I am?” I finished for him. “Isn’t that from Bridget Jones?”
“Maybe.” One side of his lips tipped up.
“You are such a vagina.”
Kyler nudged me. “But seriously, Syd—”
“I don’t want to talk.” I was suddenly about a thousand times uncomfortable. Walking again, I heard him keep pace with me a few steps behind. “Talk. Talk. Talk,” I muttered.
Snow was starting to come down again, a steady light shower that coated my head and shoulders. I had an urge to tip my head back and catch snowflakes on my tongue, but I ended up throwing my arms out, tipping my head back and belting out, “If you want a woman with a tight little kitty then find one with itty bitty titties!”
Kyler got an arm around my waist, laughing. “God, you are so trashed.”
“You haven’t heard of the song.” I leaned into him, wrapping my arms around his waist, but my grip ended up around his thighs. Odd. “It’s by Haven Palen Pole.”
He held me up. “That would be David Allen Coe, baby.”
I frowned. “That’s what I said.”
“Whatever you say.”
We walk—or shuffled along—about a yard and then I walked straight into a post office box. I grunted. “Son of a bitch jumped right out in front of me!”
Kyler stopped, shaking his head. “You are a hazard to yourself right now.”
“I’m fine.” I waved him off, edging around the tricky inanimate object as I shot it a dark look. “I’m watching you.”
“Let me help you,” he offered. “Okay? I’ll get us both home in one piece and keep us far away from ninja post office boxes.”
Sounded like a good plan, but when Kyler wrapped his arms around my waist and lifted me, practically tossing me over his shoulder, I was so not expecting that. I let out a squeal and immediately started squirming.
“Behave.” He smacked my ass.
“Hey!”
He smacked it again, and I got in a good punch in the kidneys. My butt was too cold to really burn, but his grunt brought a smile to my face. This whole position though wasn’t real good for the alcohol sloshing around in my stomach.
Kyler took three steps, and I decided I needed to get down. I reared back suddenly and he stumbled to the side. He stepped into a pile of snow that had been cleared away. I wiggled down his front, causing our legs to tangle.
“What are you doing?” he asked, trying to get a grip on me, but I was like a snake!
“Down.” I swung back and ended up taking our legs right out from underneath us. Kyler twisted at the last moment, taking the brunt of the fall in the drift, and I landed on top of him.
Neither of us moved for a second and then his hands clamped down on my hips. Under me his chest started to move slowly and then faster. Loud laughter barreled out of his throat, bringing a happy smile to my face.
I planted my hands on his chest and lifted my head.
He stared up at me, smiling. My breath caught and I felt dizzy. “You’re beautiful.”
Kyler reached up, brushing my hair from my face and tucking it back behind my ear. “I think that’s my line.”
“You think I’m beautiful?”
His gaze roamed over my face like he was committing every freckle to memory. Giddiness swept through me, like I was caught up in a bubble. “I’ve always thought you were beautiful, Syd.”
The world was bright and shiny and new. “Really?”
“Yeah,” he replied, his hand falling away from my hair, back to my hip. “Yeah, I have.”
There was nothing else for me to do. I only had one option. Kyler said I was beautiful and I’d waited since forever to hear him say that.
So I kissed him.

I'm in tears from laughing so hard! I totally LMAO at that song & I sure do love me some ninja post office boxes! What are you thoughts on Frigid so far?

My Review of Obsidian by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up. And then he opened his mouth. Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something...unexpected happens. The hot alien living next door marks me. You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon's touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades. If I don't kill him first, that is.

First of all, let me start by saying how I love that this book is about a book blogger. That was probably one of the highlights of the book overall. I also liked that the story is a bit different in that it deals with aliens, instead of the usual paranormal creatures we see all the time. I adore Jennifer Armentrout’s writing and she creates clever and amazing characters and after reading this book, I’m a fan of Katy, for sure.

Katy is a book blogger, and a cheeky one at that. I loved all the references to book blogging and smiled every time I came across an In My Mailbox or when she was overjoyed at receiving books to review from publishers. It definitely hit home and would resonate well with any book blogger out there. I loved that Jen brought out some of emotions and truths about the book blogging world and it’s a good eye-opener for those who aren’t.

I enjoyed the steamy moments between Katy and Daemon, but I didn’t really like his character. Their relationship was a bit forced and unbelievable for me, and the secondary characters weren’t as developed as I would’ve liked them to be, although I loved Dee (Daemon’s sister). I enjoyed Katy as a character, being a mix of naive and stubborn, and there was a particular moment involving some spaghetti that I simply loved. Katy’s sarcasm and wit was definitely a plus for this one. There wasn’t a lot of action in the book, and it took me a bit to really get into it. While I enjoyed Jen’s first novel, Half-Blood, more so (one of my fav books this year), I liked this book and will definitely pick up Book 2.

An Origin Teaser from Daemon's POV

6:17 PM Vi Win Win 3 Comments

You all remember that Origin will be in dual POVs, right?! Meaning, you'll get to be INSIDE Daemon's head!

Jen shows just how emotional that mind of his is with this touching teaser:

“We can’t lose you,” she said after a few moments of awkward as hell silence. “You have to understand that we aren’t doing this because we don’t care about Kat. We’re doing this because we love you.”
“But I love her,” I said without hesitation.
Dee’s eyes widened, probably since it was the first time she’d heard me say it out loud, well, about anyone other than my family. I wished I had said it more often, especially to Kat. Funny how that kind of shit always turns out in the end. While you’re deep in something, you never say or do what you need to. It’s always after the fact, when it’s too late that you realize what you’ve should’ve said or done.
It couldn’t be too late. I knew that. The fact that I was still alive was testament to that. Like Dee said, though, there were worse things than death.

My Review of Daimon and Elixir by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

I didn't do much of a review for Daimon but this little paragraph should suffice, lol. You all know how much I love this series.

"Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee ' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life." For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals--pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... and that she'll never be prepared for that duty. According to her mother, that's a good thing. But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Miami and try to find her way back to the very place her mother had warned her she should never return-the Covenant. Every step that brings her closer to safety is one more step toward death... because she's being hunted by the very creatures she'd once trained to kill. The daimons have found her.

A great prequel to an epic series. I read Half-Blood before this, loved it, and highly enjoyed some extra kick-ass Alex moments. She really is one of my favorite characters of any book I've read. Anyone who reads this little prequel will instantly become a fan and crave for more, and trust me, it gets SO much better!

Aiden St. Delphi will do anything to save Alex. Even if it means doing the one thing he will never forgive himself for. Even if it means making war against the gods.

Links

Oh, Aiden…why do you do this to me?! As if I didn’t love you enough?! You have to go and show me the inner workings of your mind, your inner turmoil and struggles with Alex’s Awakening, and you undying willingness to go above and beyond for this girl. Why can’t men be like this in real life?!

I swear, I wanted to grab Aiden and give him all kinds of hugs and attention because I truly felt for the dude. He was going through some pretty tough inner battles and dealing with some pretty crazy stuff going against everyone to protect Alex. My heart was literally breaking from all the things he had to do because it was the “right thing” for Alex, even if it killed him to do it.

Don’t get me wrong, there’s quite a few funny moments in this one, as usual, portrayed by the fabulous Alex. Aiden makes some difficult decisions for her since she’s not in the right state of mind, and things come to a pivotal point by the end. I’d say the only bad thing about this book was that it was TOO SHORT! I mean, come on Jen! You’re such a tease! Aiden needs his own book, for real, because I just can’t get enough of him. And dammit Jen, if you don’t stop with this cliffhangers I’ll seriously develop some kind of crazy sickness waiting around for your next book!

If there was ever a doubt in your mind about Aiden’s character, his passion, or his loyalty, it will all be answered in Elixir. This man can do no wrong! Seriously though, what more can I say about this book and this series?! Just go read the damn thing and thank me later.

And the Frigid Teasers Keep Coming!

6:47 PM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Yay! Jen treats fans to a nice little teaser from Frigid:

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind. I was pulled off the stool and my surprised shriek was cut off when my back hit an immoveable wall of muscle. I was enveloped in a bear hug that smelled of the outdoors and light cologne.
Only one person in this world gave me hugs like this or felt that hard… that good. Kyler’s deep voice rumbled through my body. “When did you get here?”
My feet still weren’t touching the floor. “A little bit ago,” I gasped out, gripping his forearms through his sweater.
“What the hell? Have you been hiding from me?”
Paul leaned back against the bar and grinned, but it was strained. Not that I could blame him. Kyler kind of always busted in and took over every situation. “I haven’t been hiding,” I told him, flushing when my eyes met Paul’s. “And can you put me down?”
“What if I don’t?” he teased. “You’re so little I could put you in my pocket.” “What?” I laughed. “Put me down, you idiot. I was having a conversation.”
“Sorry, Paul, I’m stealing her.” Kyler backed away, giving me no choice, because there was no way I was breaking his hold. He turned, dropping into a chair nowhere near the table he’d been at, pulling me into his lap so I was sitting sideways. He looped his arms around my waist. “I’m not happy with you, Syd.”
I arched a brow as my heart rate picked up. He was the only person who called me Syd; the only person I let call me that without kicking them in the shin. “Really? Over what?”
“You’re talking to that douche.”
“What douche?”
He leaned in, resting his forehead against mine, and my breath stalled in my chest. Why must he always get so damn close? And he really, truly, always did. “Paul.” “What about him?” I put my hands on his shoulders to push back, but his arms tightened, holding me in place. “Are you drunk?”
“Am I drunk? Aw, now you’ve gone and hurt my feelings, Syd.”
I smirked. “You don’t have any feelings.”
“Now. Now. That wasn’t very nice.” His impossibly long lashes lowered, shielding his eyes as he lifted his head, rubbing his cheek along mine. My fingers dug into his shoulders as desire twisted tight in my center. “I have all these feels, Syd.”
It took me a moment to respond. “You’re so full of it.”
He rubbed his cheek against me like a cat seeking a belly rub, and I fought the urge to purr. “I’m full of something.”
“Piss and vinegar?” I suggested as I desperately tried to ignore the way my pulse pounded in all the right places.”
He chuckled deep in his throat as he leaned back against the seat he took hostage. “Back to the serious nature of our conversation.”
“Which is: why are you playing Santa right now?”
Kyler’s lashes lifted and his eyes drilled into mine. “Hmm, now that sounds interesting. Have you’ve been naughty or nice this year, Syd?”
I opened my mouth, but nothing came out. My cheeks burned as his gaze turned knowing. “I know what you’ve been.” He kissed my forehead. “You’ve been nice.”
My shoulders slumped. I didn’t want to be nice. I wanted to be naughty like Blondie. When she’d been in his lap minutes before, I doubted Kyler had been teasing her.
Maybe I should scoop some ice up and see what he did, except that would require me doing so out of a random glass and that was just gross.

Frigid News and Some FAQs

7:41 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

Jen teased fans with some news about her upcoming New Adult novel, Frigid, on Facebook:

And Twitter:

I got a chance to see who the model is and let me tell you, YUMMMYYYYYY!!! Whoa, that dude is hot!! I can't wait to see the cover!

This also sparked a bunch of questions about Frigid that Jen answers on her Facebook:

1. Is Frigid my secret project? No. Frigid was sold on proposal back in October 2012 and completed in Nov. It's been announced for a while. Remember, a lot of my book info is not on facebook, but my website ---> jenniferarmentrout.com

2. What is NA? NA stands for New Adult.

3. How is NA differ from YA? New Adult usually focuses on the age group 18-23/25, while focusing on some of the same things you see in YA, but you're also dealing w/ characters out of their parents' house, in college, etc. It can also tend to be more graphic in terms of sex or language and sometimes not. It's really just women's fiction, focusing on an age group that's not written about a lot.

4. What about my sekrit project? I can't talk about my sekrit project yet.

5. Does this mean the cover reveal for Frigid is coming? At some point. Models were hired for the cover shoot and then the cover has to be made.

She also recently answered some questions regarding Shadows, Dawson's novella in the Lux series on Facebook:

Just an FYI as I'm starting to get emails about Shadows. Some of the vendors show a print release date for this book in February. There is no print version of Shadows set to be released. If there is, then that's news to me. =D This is about the third time it shows a release date for print and there are currently no plans for print. I have no idea why it's showing for sale or pre-order. =D

Jen also gave us a slew of updates on her blog recently-

Here's one about what she's working on now:

Right now, I’m working on Sentinel, which is the final book in the Covenant Series. I’ve never ended a series before, so this is an entirely new feeling for me. I’m excited and sad at the same time and incredibly nervous while writing this book. Apollyon, the next book in the Covenant Series comes out on April 9th, 2013.

Something about those POVs people keep asking about:

I’ve been getting a lot of requests for Daemon POVs even though I’ve done a lot of updates about the extra POVs. I will not be writing any Daemon POVs right now. I do have plans to do the last chapter in his POV (from Opal), but I simply do not have the time to do that right now. I have two books I must write before entertaining the idea of doing another POV. Contracted books must come first. =D

And a little news on Origin and publishers:

I’ve also been getting a lot of requests for me to go ahead and release Origin and Apollyon. While I’d love for you guys to read those books right now, all of my titles are through a publisher, meaning I have no say over release dates and most definitely cannot just release a title. I’m pretty sure my publishers would kill me for doing that. And I don’t want to be dead. That also means releasing large teasers, like full chapters, has to come from the publisher. At this time, I do not know when the cover for Origin will be released or for Obsession. Those things are entirely up to the publisher.

And guess what?! The Lux series is going to be in audiobook format!! Yay!!

Tantor audio will be having some awesome contests coming up near the release of the audio versions of Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal. You can expect that around March.

Some Apollyon Teasers

7:24 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

Who else is DYING to get their hands on Apollyon?!

Jen's got some teasers for you -

Here's one from Aiden:

"Sounds like a smart idea." Dark humor laced Aiden's voice. "You might want to get your gun off my brother's face while you're at it."

And one about the lovable Deacon (HEART):

Ugh, these brothers are after my heart! Seriously!!!

I can tell you that I have read this book and it is freaking awesome! You'll love it!!! April can't get here soon enough!

What do you think of all the teasers so far?

My Review of Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. " Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden. If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome. But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed. Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Oh. My. Gods! Jennifer Armentrout has done it yet again, people! I said it before and I’ll say it again, Jennifer is truly my favorite author and the Covenant series is the book love of my life! I swear, even days after reading this bad boy, I was still on a MAJOR book hangover and couldn’t think of anything else. Reading another book was meaningless because nothing could compare. Deity is THAT extraordinary and Jen’s writing is that monumental. She does this to me every time! After finishing one of her books, especially one from the Covenant series, I find myself daydreaming about all my favorite parts from Half-Blood, Pure or Deity. Every now and then, I’d sigh and whisper, “Aiden…”.

Deity pretty much picks up right after Pure ends and revolves around Alex’s inevitable Awakening. Alex is still as snarky and stubborn as ever, even with all that crap that has happened to her and I’m glad that throughout the series, she has never let anyone hold her back from doing what she believes is right. Alex’s compassion and inner strength really shines through in Deity and I love her so much more because you see just how much of a good person she is and what she’s willing to sacrifice for the ones she loves. Lets not forget how ridiculously funny and snarky she is though, because she truly made me laugh so many times throughout this book, she will definitely always be my favorite female heroine.

And did I mention there are actual freaking GODS in this epic bad boy?! Oh, yea! I’m a HUGE fan of Greek myth, which is what originally turned me onto this series in the first place, so to finally see some of the Gods show up is awesome. There are definitely some of my favorites that show up, some in VERY surprising ways, and I’m hoping there will be more in the later books. And oh, when Alex meets a particular God, let me just say, it is one of the funniest scenes ever! I was giggling the whole time (even thinking about it now makes me laugh)! *poke poke*

Oh, and if you thought that Pure was “the Seth book”, then Deity can be described “the Aiden book”. And dammit if that isn’t a good enough reason to read this one ASAP! You learn a lot more about Aiden, his past, and his family in Deity, which is so fantastic, and he even shows fans some skills you wouldn’t think he’d have. I love his passion, his strength, and most of all, his undying and unwavering trust and faith in Alex, which is so heart-stoppingly sweet and romantic, how can you not fall for this man?!

I’m definitely a spoiler-free kind of girl, but let me just say – CHAPTER 15!!!!! Be still, my heart… Seth fans, don’t fret! He is still very much a a key player in Deity. How can he not be since he is the Apollyon! As his and Alex’s bond becomes stronger, more of his truths come to light and you really can’t help but feel for the boy. Whether or not his intentions with Alex are true feelings, a personal motive, or apart of the Apollyon bond, will be seen. There are still a few “Seth moments” thrown in for your pleasure, and I can’t wait to see where Jen is taking this character.

I keep telling you guys, Jen’s books just get better and better. I find myself falling more in love with her characters, the plots are unforgettable, and the romance – mesmerizing! Once you start a JLA book, you seriously can not put it down and believe me, Deity is all that multiplied by 100! Truly an excellent installment in the Covenant series and one you’ll be aching to read again and again. Deity is packed with action, mystery, romance, humor, and so much more! Be forewarned, the ending is a killer and you’ll be begging and pleading Jen for even a glimpse of the next book, Apollyon.

My Review of Pure by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

There is need. And then there is Fate.  Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's "other half" is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her. When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude or killing her. When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.

Just when you think JLA and The Covenant Series can’t get any better, it SO does. Pure is epicness and awesomeness defined. I 100% and a million times over could not stop reading this book. Where Half-Blood shines and introduces us into this mythical world of demi-gods, pure bloods and the like; Pure dives deeper into the mystery, legend, and deceit of the Covenant and the Council. Alex continues to be a kick-ass heroine who is never short of wit and humor. Throw in the swoon-worthy Aiden and the ever-charming, deliciously sweet Seth and, gods, how could you resist?!

It’s been awhile since I’ve been in the world of the Covenant series and I had truly forgotten how much I missed it. Alex is such an amazing character, I really couldn’t love her more. She’s so funny, witty, snarky, and stubborn. A very headstrong and brave person, yet also self-conscious and caring. Alex battles with a lot of emotional things this time around and all of it comes out in the open in front of everyone, which can throw you for a loop, but Alex’s strong character stands out and develops perfectly throughout the story. Aiden isn’t as present this time around, but he has key parts and there is one particularly funny scene with Seth and a juicy scene with Alex that will leave you begging for more. Pure was definitely Seth’s moment to shine, so far. You learn a lot more about Seth, and I have to say, after reading Pure, I like Seth a lot more (although I’m totally Team Aiden). Sure he’s cocky, egotistical, and arrogant, but he’s quite charming and often sexy, not to mention pretty powerful. I love the relationship between Seth and Alex, the way they banter back and forth, even when they fight there’s just so much chemistry and heat, it’s hard not to notice and love. A soft spot has been made for Seth all right!

Jennifer’s writing just gets better and better. Honestly, there were quite a few times where I was like “I can’t believe she just wrote that! I love her!”, seriously! Not only does she know how to grab your attention from the very first page, she had me thrown all over the room at all the right moments. I found myself laughing so much at all her pop culture references and snarky remarks, I swooned and squealed at those intimate, steamy moments, and held my breath during those tense fighting scenes. I was so utterly engrossed in the book, it was like I was literally there in the book and the world outside didn’t exist. Even though it’s been a few days since I’ve finished it, Pure is still reeling through my mind and I can’t stop thinking about it. As soon as I finished it I wanted to read it again, well, I really wanted to read Deity and find out what happens next, but since that isn’t going to happen anytime soon I think I’ll have to find time to read this one again because I just can’t get over how much I love this book and this series.

Pure is truly an amazing sequel to a fantastic debut and I’m so eager to read more of the series and come back to the fabulous world that Jennifer has created. Last year, I couldn’t find a book I loved more than Half-Blood and it seems I’ll have to say the same for Pure this year. You’d be crazy not to read this series! It has it all – romance, fantasy, mythology/paranormal intrigue, action, humor, and so much more. From start to finish, it captured my heart and my mind, and left me dying for more. Give me Deity now, please!!!!

Jennifer Armentrout's Interview with Hypable

5:11 PM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

I learn something new about Jen every time I read one of her interviews and this time was no different.

What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?

I think the toughest criticism is show vs. tell aspect of writing. It’s such an important factor of story telling and sometimes you don’t realize when you’re telling and you can’t always “show” everything. The best compliment is when people say a book of mine has got them to enjoy reading again or when the book has helped them through a rough part in their life.

I really liked this Q&A because I know a lot of readers who criticize Jen's writing this way and I loved how she responds to that. Also, I'm totally one of those readers who fall in love with reading again every time I read one of her books. Of course, I feel like an manic person afterwards because I can't read anything for days due to the shear awesomeness of her books.

Eh, what are you gonna do?!

To see the rest of the interview, check out Hypable.

My Review of Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

Greek mythology, paranormal intrigue, a juicy romance - this book has it all. Armentrout wastes no time in reeling the reader in with action, mystery, and excitement; I was hooked from the start. I 'd have to say, the synopsis didn't really draw me in and it doesn't do the book justice at all. If you're expecting another typical paranormal romance novel, you'll be pleasantly surprised because Half-Blood is anything but typical.

Reminiscent of The Mortal Instruments, fans of that series will devour Half-Blood. Armentrout draws the reader in with an action-packed first chapter that leaves you wanting more. Alex is sarcastic, outgoing, adventurous, and a force to be reckoned with. She adds humor and light to the story and I immediately liked her, which is uncommon for me since the lead girl usually starts out so niave and irritating that I'm always subconsciously yelling at her for being so immature (but she eventually grows at the end and I still root for the girl). I loved that she was so tough and that she never really cared what other people thought about her, which is the kind of girl I like. Armentrout gives Alex a sense of strength and character you'll find irresistible. And don't get me started on Aiden!

Ah, Aiden...must all the authors out there create such a swoon-worthy male lead? Aiden's presence is seen from the start and you feel an instant connection between him and Alex. Their chemistry and rare, but steamy intimate scenes had me holding my breath waiting for what would happen next. And the twist of fate between Alex, Aiden, and another mystery man will have you questioning destiny and whether or not you control your own life.

I enjoyed all the characters in this book, even the evil ones, and I think Armentrout did a great job in recreating ancient myth for the modern world. I honestly couldn't put the book down and devoured it in no time. Yes, it's THAT good! Waiting around for Pure, the next book in The Covenant Series, will be pure torture!
