FALL WITH ME Synopsis:

Eleven months ago, bartender and weird-shirt-wearing extraordinaire Roxy and Officer Reece Anders had a one night stand. Well, kind of. She’s been in love with him since she was fifteen, and he wishes that night they shared never happened. She’s sworn him off forever, but the past and future collide, forcing her to rely on the one man who broke her heart not once, but twice.

Her best friend since birth has been in a long-term care facility since he became a victim of a hate crime years ago, and the person who put him in there is out of prison and wanting to make amends with him and Roxy. She’s not sure she has room for forgiveness in her and when she begins to receive frightening messages and is on the receiving end of escalating violence, she thinks she knows who is to blame. The man who already destroyed one life already.

But Reece isn’t convinced. The threats are too personal, and even if Roxy doesn’t believe him, he’s not willing to let anyone hurt her. Including himself. He’s already messed up more than once when it comes to Roxy and he’s not going to let history repeat itself.

Yet another case of JLA goodness. Fall With Me definitely made me fall and I honestly think I liked this book more than Stay With Me, even if both books had similar elements. Despite my issues with Roxy, which I’ll discuss, something about their chemistry and the suspense aspect of the book just clicked for me and I flew through this book. I genuinely liked Reece and Roxy as a couple and I liked watching their relationship unfold. There’s just something about a cop, who is protective and all alpha-male by nature (at least in books), that totally appeals to me.

So yeah, the suspense element really caught my attention, which is surprising because that plot line was hardly anything new and I figured everything out way before Roxy got a clue, but it was just exciting to read and I kept on reading to see how things would work itself out and waiting impatiently, in a good way, for the big reveal. The book has a pretty crazy psycho running amuck around town, and I just like those kinds of books for some reason.

I loved Reece so much. He’s an all-around good guy and I admired his persistence when it came to Roxy. He has some inner demons that weren’t really explored, but you still get a good sense of his character. He was very patient, considerate, and understanding with Roxy and I enjoyed their conversations and the fact that their families are basically all old friends. The scenes of them with Roxy’s family were hilarious and just fun to read. Their intimate scenes were, naturally, hot as hell. Oh, and did I mention the guy makes a mean omelet? Because, oh yeah…he does.

Roxy, on the other hand, had her ups and downs. I loved how great of a friend she was to Charlie and empathized with her situation. I had mixed feelings about how she handled Henry, but I understood her actions. Her biggest flaw was not being able to let go and move on, which I used to have problems with growing up, so I got it and didn’t fault her for it too much. I also loved that she wears glasses and her love of humorous t-shirts was cute. She had a bit of spunk to her and her inner monologues weren’t so bad. What really bugged me about her was how she kept pushing Reece away. If you know my tastes, you know I don’t like it when characters do that, especially if it’s over something as silly or uncontrollable as Roxy’s reasons. Granted, it wasn’t that big of an issue and Reece stood his ground, I didn’t care for her way of thinking. I also didn’t like how flippant she was about the crazy and strange things that were happening to her. I just couldn’t believe how she didn’t take it seriously and how long she let it go on.

As good as JLA books are, and you know how much I love my JLA, I have to say that I’m getting a little tired of all the pop culture references and cheesy one-liners. I know I’ve said that I loved pop culture references in the past, but I think I like it better when it’s every now and then, especially from one given author. I guess since I’ve read every JLA book to date, these things tend to be a bit too repetitive to the point where it’s like her fall-back formula. Sure, that’s just Jen’s writing style and I love it, but it gets old fast. For example, with the one-liners, “holy baby Jesus in a manger” or something akin to that, while funny, gets played out after so many of her characters use it.

Anyways, that’s not specific to just Fall With Me, of course, but just thought I’d put that out there. Maybe that’s just me and the fact that I seriously read too many books nowadays, especially too many contemporary romances. Either way, Fall With Me was a great romance read with a good dose of suspense/thriller. Fans of the series will also love seeing all the previous couples as well as get clues to the remaining two couples. JLA just knows how to entertain through her writing and characters and this book was no different. I definitely loved this and can’t wait for more from this series.

Book Review: Stone Cold Touch by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Layla Shaw is trying to pick up the pieces of her shattered life—no easy task for a seventeen-year-old who’s pretty sure things can’t get worse. Her impossibly gorgeous best friend, Zayne, is forever off-limits thanks to the mysterious powers of her soul-stealing kiss. The Warden clan that has always protected her is suddenly keeping dangerous secrets. And she can barely think about Roth, the wickedly hot demon prince who understood her in ways no one else could.
But sometimes rock bottom is only the beginning. Because suddenly Layla’s powers begin to evolve, and she’s offered a tantalizing taste of what has always been forbidden. Then, when she least expects it, Roth returns, bringing news that could change her world forever. She’s finally getting what she always wanted, but with hell literally breaking loose and the body count adding up, the price may be higher than Layla is willing to pay…

Why, Jen, why?! Why did you make me fall for both guys?!

That was definitely my initial reaction after finishing Stone Cold Touch. Jen basically took my heart and split it in two. As much as I love Roth and can see how perfect he is for Layla, I can’t help but love and root for Zayne, sexy and brooding gargoyle that he is. As per her usual, Jen works her wizard writing skills and has created a fantastic series with the Dark Elements. Stone Cold Touch was just as engaging and action-packed as White Hot Kiss, not to mention full of romance and angst. Jen has pretty much perfected the art of writing romance so I’m never disappointed when it comes to that aspect of her books. But she’s also working on perfecting her art of story-telling and this book is a prime example of just that. Fans of this series will devour this sequel without a doubt, whether they’re Roth lovers or Zayne supporters.

Layla is such a great protagonist and continues grow as the series progresses. Her powers start to grow and change and she learns new things about herself and her fate. Oh, so much drama and tension, I love it! I especially loved her interactions with Bambi, such an interesting and fun character. Anyways, Layla definitely faces a lot of adversity because of what she is and with everyone against her, I genuinely enjoyed watching her handle it all. In the end, I think I’ll just say I’m Team Layla! She rocks!

As for the boys, what can I say?! Zayne brings his A game to the table in this book and I seriously fell for him. He finally realizes that he can’t hide his feelings for Layla anymore and Layla finally gets what she’s always wanted, or so she thinks. Tensions rise and emotions flail all over place wince Roth does what he does best and shakes things up. Sure Roth has the charm and sex appeal, and yes, they can get their groove on without any problems, but Zayne has the history and the way he cares for Layla is so apparent and touching. Honestly, it’s a tough decision for me. It’s not often I can’t decide between the two guys in a love triangle, but this is one of those times.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how Jen finishes this series in Every Last Breath. I’m sure she has a clear vision of each choice in her head and it’s just a matter of writing it out. Either way, no matter who Layla (or the readers, rather) chooses, this series is bound to have one heck of a climactic ending filled with swoonworthy romance, heart-stopping action, and gutting-wrenching drama that Jen is known for. I can’t wait!

Book Review: Opposition by Jennifer L Armentrout

12:21 PM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came. She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all. Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal. They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind. War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

Oh boy, what can I say about this book, about this series, except for GET IT NOW, READ IT NOW, THANK ME LATER. Endings are pretty hard to do well, in my opinion. You build up this amazing, gut-wrenching series, and a bad ending can wreck the whole thing. Luckily for us, JLA is a champion writer and doesn’t hold anything back when it comes to Opposition. This book was really everything I was hoping for and more. Not only do you get an amazing story filled with love, drama, action, and intrigue that can stand on its own, but you also get a stellar conclusion for these characters you’ve grown so attached to.

Daemon Black, you irresistible, devil-may-care, fierce, yet charming piece of male specimen, you! Jen definitely made Daemon’s character come full circle throughout this series. Seeing how much Katy has changed and affected him and how strong their love is was just amazing. I seriously love them as a couple and I know I’ve said it before, but they are one of my all-time favorite YA couples. Their relationship progressed at a good pace, they grew separately as individuals and as a couple, and learned so much from each other. Sure the steamy moments were great and you can’t help but love that DB charm, but it’s how they managed to get through all that craziness with the DOD and the Luxen that shows how genuine and wonderful their relationship really is. He is definitely the star of this series.

Katy was just as great in the book, too. She’s come a long way since the beginning and so many things have rocked this girl’s world, yet she’s remained so strong throughout it all. I’ll tell you, some more crazy stuff happens to Katy has this book progresses, I really felt for her, but even when she breaks down, she still manages to hold it together and kick some butt in the process. I might even have a girl crush on her now!

And all the secondary characters?! I loved them all! Archer is easily a favorite of mine, and so is Luc. Dee kind of annoyed me in this book, despite it not particularly being her fault. Oh, and we get some face time with Hunter, that sexy Arum! Ah, to get a chance to know Lor or Sin?! Sigh…I actually really enjoyed all the scenes with the Arum in it and I loved how Jen incorporated them into the story, giving them such pivotal roles during this crazy Luxen invasion.

I will admit, there was one part, right before the ending, that I could’ve done without. It added some unnecessary drama in an otherwise fine ending, but I didn’t mind it much. Also, I definitely hated that it ended so soon. It ended well, don’t get me wrong, but I would’ve loved a couple more 100 pages or so, just to quell my need for all things Daemon Black.

Opposition was definitely the perfect ending to an outstanding series. I loved every minute of it. Jen truly grips at your emotions with this book, making you have all the feels for these characters and this story. Any fan of the series would be crazy not to read this conclusion, and if you haven’t check out this series, now is the perfect time to do so and binge read it, because you won’t be able to put this series down! All my love to the Lux series, and Daemon & Katy. Way to leave a reader feeling satisfied and fulfilled, Jen! This will definitely be one series I’ll look forward to re-reading again and again in the future.
