Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Onyx, Chapters 17-36.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

It was cool seeing Katy explore her newfound powers and despite Blake's every-growing creepiness, it was necessary for Katy to control her powers. It was definitely a slippery slope for Daemon and Katy's relationship though. One of my favorite parts was definitley when Daemon helped Katy film a video. Too funny and cute! Oh and ugh, I swear, the end of Chapter 30 and then Chapter 31 gets me every time. It's like, I keep wishing it would change, even though I know the outcome. My heart totally broke for these characters.

Thank you all for your feedback on Shadows and the first half of Onyx. I loved all your responses about the books so far. Here's what some readers had to say:

Kaytee Hawse says "I love when Daemon finally starts showing his sweet side in this one! Makes me so happy to see him show his true self and not continue to act closed off. Also, I hate reading about Blake knowing what's to come"

Zili Robins says "I love Katy's snark and approach to dealing with the aliens: "Either I was turning into an alien, about to have one crawl its way out of my stomach, or I was crazy." She did start to get on my nerves when she refused to see how into her he was. She's very stubborn, but then I guess this is why they work and have fab banter!"

Be sure to come back here next Monday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Opal, Chapters 1-18.

No one is like Daemon Black. When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on. But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love. After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever. Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

So what did you think of the book so far?

Lux Read-Along: Week 4

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Shadows and Onyx, Chapters 1-16.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

I really loved Shadows. Seeing Dawson and Bethany's love story unfold, it was just great. I loved seeing the differences in personality with both boys. Sure, Daemon is awesome, but Dawson is so sweet and considerate. Bethany is a great girl, too. It's so sad knowing what happens to them, but reliving their beginning was nice.

I really loved how Daemon was acting in this first half of Onyx. You could see his sweet and caring side start to show and even though it was frustrating to see Katy fight their relationship, I really think it was necessary to get to them to what happens next. I'll admit, I didn't realize Blake's role in all of this and just how crazy things would turn out. I honestly just thought he was there for a bit of friction between Daemon & Katy and to help Katy deal with what she was going through. Oh, and I seriously did not like Will form the very beginning. He definitely has the creepy, intense factor going on that I did not like or trust at all.

Thank you all for your feedback on the last half of Obsidian. I loved all your responses about the book. Here's what some readers had to say:

Lori Christensen says "The last chapters of this book move a lot faster. There is a lot more action. It doesn't mean I love the first half any less, but the second half is definitely more exciting."

Kaytee Hawse says "The moment when Daemon heals Katy will always be one of my favorite moments. I've been listening to the audio books this time around and it's totally different hearing it out loud. Whenever Daemon says things I just melt!"

Connie Ficker says "I totally loved it!! I couldn't remember some of the thing which were mentioned, so I almost ate the last 15 chapters of Obsidian! I cannot wait to read Shadows AND Onyx!"

Be sure to come back here next Monday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Lux Read-Along: Week 3

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Obsidian, Chapters 16-30.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

It was definitely interesting seeing how Katy reacted to Daemon's secret and seeing their chemistry grow. I really didn't care for any of the others, except Dee, because of how mean they were to Katy, but I understood. It's funny because I didn't notice just how quickly Daemon's demeanor and attitude towards Katy changed as I read through Obsidian. Sure, he's still cocky and a bit of a jerk at times, but you can see the subtle changes in him and how he begins to really care for Katy. Loved it!

Thank you all for your feedback on Obsidian so far. I loved all your responses about the book. Here's what some readers had to say:

Henna says "I loved getting back into the story. It was even better reading it the second time."

Lori Christensen says "One of my most favorite parts of the first 15 chapters are the tiny little things that Daemon says or does, that let you in on the fact that she is beginning to beguile him. I can't mention them all, but moments like when he takes a lock of her hair (car wash scene) and asks her what color it is. Poking her with his pen. The moments when he almost says or does something to give it away. These things, and the understanding gained by knowing about Dawson are probably the only things that redeem Daemon in these chapters."

Brittany F. says "This is my 4th or 5th time reading Obsidian and, while it's not as exciting as the first time, I still love it! I love going back to Daemon's "jerk" days and experiencing their first interactions all over again. Going back to the start, you're really able to see how much the characters have grown and how far they've come."

Be sure to come back here next Monday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Shadows and Onyx, Chapters 1-16.

The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane. Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable. Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in. Captivated. Lured. Loved. Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks… Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems. Something worse than the Arum has come to town… The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard. But then everything changes… I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me? No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Obsidian, Chapters 1-15.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

It was definitely great to jump back into this world, look back at Katy's innocence, and laugh at the very first moments Daemon and Katy had together. I loved Dee so much in these first few chapters. She's so bubbly, sweet, and cute. I definitely wasn't feeling the Thompson siblings or Matthew, but I forgot how hilarious Katy's mom was. It was fun watching all the slip ups Daemon pulled around Katy before she found out the truth and I have to admit, even though he was a jerk, it wasn't nearly as bad once you know how things change for them.

My Review of White Hot Kiss by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:37 AM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

One kiss could be the last.
Seventeen-year-old Layla just wants to be normal—fit in at school, and go out on a real date with the gorgeous Zayne, whom she's crushed on since forever. Trouble is, Zayne treats Layla like a sister—and Layla is anything but normal. She's half demon, half gargoyle, with abilities no one else possesses.
Raised among the Wardens—a race of gargoyles tasked with hunting demons and keeping humanity safe—Layla tries to fit in, but that means hiding her own dark side from those she loves the most. Especially Zayne, the swoon-worthy, incredibly gorgeous and completely off-limits Warden she's crushed on since forever.
Then she meets Roth—a tattooed, sinfully hot demon who claims to know all her secrets. Layla knows she should stay away, but she's not sure she wants to—especially when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue, considering Roth has no soul.
But when Layla discovers she's the reason for the violent demon uprising, trusting Roth could not only ruin her chances with Zayne…it could brand her a traitor to her family. Worse yet, it could become a one-way ticket to the end of the world.

Armentrout delivers a refreshing paranormal tale with a twist. After getting a glimpse of this world in Bitter Sweet Love, I was excited to dive into White Hot Kiss and really see what these creatures were all about. Here, you get a more in-depth look at the dynamics of the Wardens, the threat of demons, and how the human world plays into all of this. I think Jennifer did a great job at introducing readers to this unique and fascinating world of sexy, yet dangerous gargoyles.

Layla definitely has the potential to be one of my favorite female characters from JLA. She starts off very naive and innocent, basically sheltered from the truths and terrors of the real world, and I enjoyed seeing her slowly discover all that has been hidden from her. Despite being basically shunned by the Warden community, she holds her own with these creatures and does her best to prove her worth. She definitely has a lot of inner strength and also, a lot of room for growth. I’m expecting great things from this character.

Now, about the boys.

Roth is in a league all his own. That boy is just plain “bad boy perfection with a heart” on a stick! Jennifer never fails to create those irresistible boy you can’t help but fall for, and boy did I fall for Roth. Not only does he have the looks, he mouth is delectable and he certainly has a way with words. Once again, Jennifer creates engaging dialogue between two captivating characters that just keeps you glued to the pages. I really loved the chemistry and banter between Layla and Roth. He definitely stole my heart with that ending, that’s for sure!

Let’s not forget about Zayne. While he doesn’t get as much “screen time” as Roth, he’s got a bit of “something goin’ on” that intrigued me. There’s obviously feelings brewing between Layla and Zayne, plus a meaningful relationship that they’ve shared since they were young, that I’m just itching to explore. Zayne doesn’t make the best decisions when it comes to Layla, but their situation is pretty complicated and it’s not hard to tell how much he cares for her. I’m hoping for some intense scenes with him in the next book.

With a scorching-hot, yet seemingly complicated romance and one heck of an alluring plot line, White Hot Kiss grabs you and doesn’t let you go. Even worse, it leaves you begging for me! JLA definitely has a hit on her hands and fans of hers will devour this gem. New to JLA? Pick this one up and prepare to be amazed!

My Review of Be With Me by J. Lynn

9:35 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.
Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.
As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

As usual, JLA delivers with this touching story filled with sexy scenes, hilarious moments, and witty dialogue. I loved it! Here you have two characters with some pretty troubling pasts who learn to open up, trust someone else, and fall in love. What I enjoyed most was that fact that JLA tackles yet another difficult subject, and does it so well. Teresa had one of the worst experiences with a previous boyfriend, and the memories of that part of her life come back to her in a startling way that really adds drama to this story of romance and friendship. As far as Jase goes, he surprised me a bit with his past (although I may be the only one who didn’t see it coming), and he’s a tough one to crack, but when you do, it’s well worth it. The guy is definitely swoonworthy!

Oh, and remember Cam and his cookies? Well, JLA throws Jase and cupcakes together into a sweet and sexy package you’d find hard to resist. I swear, keep mixing hot guys and sweet treats, and you can’t go wrong. And, Cam and Avery fans rejoice! You will see plenty of these two, especially Cam, throughout Be With Me. There’s one scene in particular involving Cam, Jase, & Teresa that was so hilariously entertaining I loved it.

I think the one thing that bothered me the most, however, was how back and forth Jase was about his relationship with Teresa. You know how I get when there are too many hot and cold moments and even though Jase continued to be a good friend to Teresa despite him giving her the cold shoulder romance-wise, it still didn’t sit well with me. I definitely couldn’t get on board with that one scene that basically changed their relationship. Regardless of that issue, I get why it developed that way and I respected that. It worked for these characters.

Jase and Teresa’s relationship is a slower build, but well worth it in the end. Jen also doesn’t disappoint with a few panty-melting scenes, I might add. If you want a romantic story that is so much more than just romance, then this is the book for you. Jen will have glued to the pages until the very end.

My Review of Tempting the Bodyguard by J. Lynn

9:33 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

He can protect her from everyone except himself.
Alana Gore is in danger. A take-no-prisoners publicist, her way with people has made her more than a few enemies over the years, but a creepy stalker is an entirely different matter. She needs a bodyguard, and the only man she can ask is not only ridiculously hot, but reputed to have taste for women that goes beyond adventurous.
Chandler Gamble has one rule: don't protect anyone you want to screw. But with Alana, he's caught between his job and his increasingly hard libido. On one hand, Alana needs his help. On the other, Chandler wants nothing more than to take the hot volcano of a woman in hand. To make her writhe in pleasure, until she's at his complete mercy.
She needs protection. He needs satisfaction. And the moment the line is crossed, all hell will break loose...

Oh, it was so wonderful to finally be back in this world again. I missed the Gamble brothers so much! Lynn, of course, does not disappoint, and I believe she saved the best Gamble brother for last. I didn’t think it would happen, but I have to admit that Chandler has become my favorite and I simply loved and devoured his romantic story with Alana. I love that Lynn can take a tried and true trope, add her own little spin on it, and turn it into something irresistible and unforgettable.

Easily my favorite part of this book was the dialogue between Alana and Chandler. Lynn just has a way with words! I loved watching these two butt heads and the sexual tension rolling of them was enough to ignite a room full of candles, it was so hot! You take a “stick in the mud”, uptight character like Alana and mix her with a kinky alpha male like Chandler, and you know you’re in for one hell of a steamy ride.

What surprised me the most, and seriously made me fall for Chandler, was how caring he was. He’s definitely you’re rough-around-the-edges tough guy on the outside, but on the inside, it can quote poetic with the best of them. He was the perfect mix of a sexy exterior and a romantic interior that enhanced his appeal so well. Add a bit of kink, and you’ve got yourself a stand-out guy. I loved how he knew he wanted her and stopped at nothing to get her. Yes, Alana was the resistant one here, and I like it when the author does this twist because it’s fun to see the chase. And Chandler loves the chase!

I don’t think I can describe him with any justice so you’ll really have to read the book to see just how amazing and irresistible he is. And trust me, you’ll want to read this book. Easily the best of the series, Chandler Gamble as solidified his place on my list of (adult) book boyfriends and given his brothers a run for their money. Another win for Lynn and her excellent skills. Loved. This. Book!

Starting over sucks. When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I'd pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes.
