Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.
Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.
But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.
I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to JLA, but seriously, this lady can do no wrong! No matter what genre, plot line, or character she tackles, she has a way of turning a book into one heck of a read. Her books are basically like crack. For real! And naturally, Wicked is no different. Adding her own flair to the fae, creating a secret society that hunts them, and throwing in two compelling characters with insane chemistry – Wicked has you hooked from the first chapter and leaves you begging for my by the end.
I loved the setting of New Orleans, a place I hope to visit some day. The French Quarter! And I especially want to savor the piece of heaven that is beignets. Cafe Du Monde! You get a good taste of the look and feel of New Orleans in this book and, honestly, I couldn’t think of a better setting for these creatures. As for the Order, those in command kind of worked my nerves, especially David, but I liked what they stood for and all that. The clover and tattoo themes they had going on were pretty cool, too. The Elite seriously have a tough job to do, but if it was all real, I would SO love to be a part of that group.
Jen knocks it out of the park with her reign of kickass heroines and Ivy can kick fae, and boy, butts with the best of them. Ivy’s full of spunk, more of an “act first, think later” kind of girl, reminiscent of Alex from the Covenant series, who I love and adore. The poor girl has lost a lot in her life, but she’s determined to use the skills she has to protect the world from them crazy ass fae. She holds her own within a sea of highly-trained men and I loved that she didn’t take crap from anyone. But, she also has a kind heart and even though she’s a bit closed off, for good reason, those she does care about, she cares for fiercely, which I appreciated.
In true JLA fashion, she has once again made me fall for another guy. Ren is all kinds of swoon-worthy! I love that he has that charm that reminds of Daemon Black, but also with a mix of sincerity and passion that I loved in Aiden St. Delphi. He makes his feelings for Ivy known pretty early on and lays it all on the line for her, which is pretty refreshing as you know I hate those “hot and cold” kinds of relationships. I loved the back-and-forth banter between Ren and Ivy and I especially loved his occasional twisting of her words into some kind of sexual innuendo. It was pretty funny. And his real name?! Hilarious! Oh, and there’s a scene between Tink and him in his birthday suit that was so damn fantastic, I wish I was there in person, if for no other reason than to see him in his birthday suit (let’s be honest here). I’ll just let that simmer in your mind for a bit.
I love it when Jen includes lovable sidekicks/secondary characters in her stories, and Tink is one of my favorites. A paranormal creature with sass, a love for beignets and other sweets, who can cook a mean chocolate cake, and also loves watching book-to-movie adaptions like Harry Potter and Twilight. You gotta love a creature like that!
I’m just going to say it – Wicked is wickedly awesome! Even though you would totally see that line coming, it speaks the truth. Paranormal romance readers will love Jen’s spin on the fae and I love that added feel of the New Adult genre, because Jen knows how to take the romance another step further, without it being cheesy. I SO saw that ending coming, but I loved it nonetheless. I’m seriously dying for Torn and after everything that happens in Wicked, that title is definitely appropriate. I need more now!!!!
It's a Wicked Release Day!

Excerpt:
He left me standing there as he disappeared into the bathroom, and I tried to make sense of what just happened. All I knew was that the punch-in-the-chest sadness that came whenever I thought of Shaun wasn’t there. And I didn’t know what to make of that.
Or anything.
Taking a deep breath, I put my clothes on his dresser and all but dashed into the bed, and good Lord, the mattress was comfy! I scooted to the middle and froze, having no idea what side he slept on or if he had a side. I totally had a side—always the furthest away from closet doors because I was a dork. Straightening the shirt out so my undies weren’t saying hi to the world, I tugged the blanket up to my hips and lay flat on my back.
I so needed an adult to explain to me what the hell I was supposed to do from this point on.
There wasn’t much time to stress over it because Ren returned from the bathroom. His ever-present half grin spread as he saw me. I clutched the blanket, my breath caught in my throat. My heart pounded so fast that I wondered if I was going to have a heart attack, and God, wouldn’t that be embarrassing. I swallowed nervously and willed my heart to slow.
Turning off the lamp, shadows fell around Ren, but when he faced me, I could tell that he’d frozen. I couldn’t make out his expression as he bent, taking a hold of the covers on his side.
“Ivy?”
“Hmm?”
He slowly edged the covers back from his side and climbed in, and although I couldn’t make out his eyes, I knew he was watching me. “I’m happy that you’re here.”
My fingers eased off the blanket.
As he stretched out beside me, my eyes adjusted to the lack of light, and I could see that he was smiling. “Are you?” “Yeah,” I whispered. “Good. That’s all I wanted to hear.” Wow, the warmth that flooded my chest could’ve turned me into a puddle of goo in that bed. I waited for him to make a move on me, but seconds ticked by. He seriously was behaving himself. I dared a quick peek at him, and found I could not look away. Ren lifted his arm closest to me, and a heartbeat passed. I hesitated for a moment, and then, my heart pounding even more, I slid over until my leg brushed his. He curved his arm around my waist and drew me up against his side, guiding me down until I was nestled against his warm, bare chest. Another moment passed and then I lowered my cheek, and the simple pleasure of lying like this nearly broke me right open.
