My Review
Ah! This was exactly the kind of romance read I was looking for right now. Dream of You follows Abby and Colton, high school acquaintances who happen to cross paths again after Abby witnesses a murder and Colton is one of the police officers assigned to her case. As they start to get know each other again and as Abby's life is threatened because of what she witnessed, things heat up between Colton and Abby in a very delicious way. Colton is your typical alpha male and I'm a sucker for sexy cops, I can't help it!
Abby was an excellent character. She's very relatable and I connected to her easily. She's not an obvious beauty, not what modern society would call pretty - she's curvy, so the girl's got some self-esteem issues which I know any girl can relate to. She was never really in the whole dating scene, having married her high school sweetheart, who passed away before the book starts. Abby has definitely known loss, losing her husband and also her parents in terrible car accidents. I'm surprised the girl is as normal as she is. She's also a free-lance book editor, which I adored. I loved how much of a book nerd she was and there were even moments where she discussed going to book events with her friends. How cute!
Anyways, I really appreciated Colton giving Abby the chance to see for herself how wonderful and beautiful she really is. It's not enough for the guy to tell the girl she's pretty, she has to believe it herself and JLA made a point to prove that to Abby here. She struggles with self-image throughout the book and it hinders her relationship a bit with Colton, but after a lot of soul-searching and positive thinking, I liked that Abby was able to see the true beauty in herself and to realize that it's all subjective.
As expected with a novella, especially one from JLA, I was left wanting so much more, in a good way though. I would've loved to get more from Colton, being able to understand his character and personality more, and I'd kill for a POV from him. Either way, the book was exceptional and I loved how it connected to the rest of the series. If you like your heroes as sexy, dashing cops, your heroines to be relatable and realistic, and your romance steamy then this is the book for you. Short and simple, and it leaves you feeling happy and satisfied.

About DREAM OF YOU:
Abby Erickson isn't looking for a one-night stand, a relationship, or anything that involves any one-on-one time, but when she witnesses a shocking crime, she's thrust into the hands of the sexiest man she's ever seen - Colton Anders. His job is to protect her, but with every look, every touch, and every simmering kiss, she's in danger of not only losing her life but her heart also.
Excerpt
Colton leaned toward me with his gaze locked onto mine. “I didn’t know you in high school, but I knew of you.”
“You did? I can’t imagine it was anything interesting. I was boring as—”
“I never got the impression you were boring,” he interrupted, and goodness, I could fall into those eyes and never come back out. So cheesy sounding, and if I saw it in one of my author’s books, I’d redline the hell out of that, but now I got it. It was possible. “I just thought you were this pretty girl who sat two seats behind me in history class and was shy.”
Several things occurred to me at once. He remembered that we shared history class together? Holy crap on a cracker. And he thought I’d been pretty? I was sure I probably weighed twenty pounds more back then and I wore these godawful glasses that were so trendy nowadays.
Colton was a flirt.
“Looking back, I wish I had the balls to talk to you then.” He returned his attention to his crepe while my jaw hit the table. “But you were with Kevin and…yeah, that’s not my style, you know?” He glanced in my direction. “You’re going to eat the crepes, right?”
“Yeah,” I murmured, cutting into one side. I forced myself to eat a bite, and it was like heaven just orgasmed in my mouth. Wow. That was inappropriate. I resisted a giggle. “What about you? You’ve been a cop this whole time?”
“Yep. It’s what I always wanted to do. Started off as a deputy, then became a detective for the county before transferring to the city. I love working as a detective, but with my hours all over the place, Reece, my brother, has pretty much straight up adopted my dog. She doesn’t even stay at my house anymore.” He finished off the second crepe with an impressive quickness and then settled back against the chair, stretching out his long legs. “Almost got married.”
Thank God I had just swallowed a piece of crepe because there was a good chance I would’ve choked. “Almost?”
“Was engaged.” He grinned, and I felt my tummy dip in response. “Nicole and I were together for…hell.” He glanced up at the ceiling, pursing his lips. “For about six years.”
Holy crap, six years? That was a long time. I wondered if she was the woman I’d seen him with at the movies that one time, but that was like, maybe a year ago.
“Got all the way down to planning the wedding date when we came to the realization that we wanted different things in life.”
