Covenant Read-Along: Week 9

12:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Welcome to Week NINE of The Covenant Series Read-Along. If you want to know more about the Read-Along, sign up for it, and get all the details, check out this page here. You'll find links to all the weekly posts on that page, too.

Missed last week's discussion? You can find it here.

REMEMBER: In order to be eligible for the prizes, you must SIGN UP and then answer the questions via the Google Form below.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Deity, Chapters 24-34.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

Wow, why didn't I see this before?! Seth is a Grade A Douchebag! Why did I ever like him the first time around?! Sigh...even though I still have a smidgeon of hope for him and I see how Lucian has been manipulating him, I can't get over the way he's been using and lying to Alex. Argh! My feelings would equate to how I'd feel towards a loved one who got hooked on drugs. You love them, hope for them, but am ultimately disappointed and feel bad for them. And Lucian! That bastard! Dammit, I forgot what craziness he spewed when he called the Council to order. And let me say again, I LOVE THE GODS! This has to be one of my favorite aspects of this particular book, seeing more Gods show up. Definitely a plus! Finally, Aiden...SWOON! He never ceases to amaze me with his love, compassion, and understanding. Gods, that man is perfect! Oh, and that ending?! Ugh, I remember that tortured me the first time around! Dang cliffhanger!

Here's what some readers had to say about Deity, Chapters 12-23:
Borghild says "Oh man. My feelings are all over the place in this part of the book. And let me just say, chapter 22…… Oh gods. Feels! Aiden how is it possible to be even more perfect than you already was? Oh Aiden, I'm not even going to start with saying why I love you. I just love that man!"

Michelle favorite quote was " 'but even as he pulled away, I realized that he couldn't steal something he already had.' "

Jennifer says "I loved the scene where Aiden is meant to be guarding Alex and stays with her the night, who am i kidding I love all there scenes together! just talking with each other they're so cute:) equally cute was the toothbrush scene when Alex came back from dying, just aww! And of course I also loved chapter 22;)"

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Elixir.

So what did you think of the book so far?

Trust in Me Teaser & Giveaway

5:38 PM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Jen is counting down to the release of Trust in Me by sharing teasers every week!

Sharp need punched right through me as her body slid down my front. My hands tightened on her hips and she tipped her head back. Her eyes darkened to a deep chocolate brown, and my brain clicked off as I somehow tugged her closer. I knew she had to feel my arousal, and considering we hadn’t even kissed, something about that seemed wrong, but I couldn’t let her go.
Her hands pressed against my chest, and I thought she was going to push me away, and swore to God right then and there, no matter how hard it would be, I would let her go if she did.
But she didn’t.
Avery’s hands flattened against my chest, above my pounding heart, and she had to have felt it.
My hand moved on its own accord, curving up her waist and then over her arm, to her throat and then her cheek. She gasped when my fingertips grazed her cheeks, catching the hair stuck to her temples. I tucked the strands back behind her ears, my hand lingering.
“You’re soaked.”
“So are you.”
I smoothed my thumb over the slant of her cheek. “I guess we’re going to have to try this another night.”
“Yeah,” she whispered as her eyes flickered shut and then swept back open.
“Maybe we should’ve checked the weather first.” When she smiled, I shifted my hips in response. Her body shuddered in such a mind-blowing way and her lashes lowered. Her lips parted even further, and I didn’t want to let her go. She felt too good this close.
Her chest rose in short, deep breaths as I lowered my head, wanting and needing to kiss her. Just once. That’s all I wanted. My eyes started to drift closed.
Avery suddenly jerked back, pressing a hand between her breasts. “I think we … we should call it a night.”
For a moment I couldn’t move and then leaned back, tipping my head against the wall. It took a couple of moments before I could speak. “Yeah, we should.”
The trip out of the building and back to the apartment wasn’t easy. I was still strung tight as a bow. Nothing seemed to make the raw edge go away. I tried reciting the alphabet backwards, tried thinking about the old lady who lived in the building nearby, who sometimes walked her dog in a white nightgown. The sight was not pretty, but it still didn’t work.
The rain was still coming down as we dashed across the parking lot and under the awning. I shook my head, spraying water everywhere. Avery stopped at the base of the stairwell leading up to our apartments, and I thought it was all the rain I’d just pelted her with. I opened my mouth to apologize, but she turned sideways, her face pale as she peered up at me.
A very different kind of ache sliced through my chest, stirring up that knot in there, at the stark confusion and fear in her eyes. Fear. I didn’t get it. Had I done that to her? No. I couldn’t believe that. Not the way she had reacted to me. I saw it in her eyes. She had wanted me to kiss her, probably even as badly as I wanted to kiss her, but she had pulled away because … I honestly didn’t know.
I thrust my hand through my hair, pulling it off my forehead. “Go out with me.”
“No,” she whispered.
I grinned slightly, and her chest fell, her shoulders relaxed, as if she needed to hear this. “There’s always tomorrow.”
She followed me up the stairs. “Tomorrow’s not going to change anything.”
“We’ll see.”
“There’s nothing to see. You’re wasting your time.”
“When it concerns you, it’s never a waste of my time.”
And that was the damn truth.

What do you think?

She's also hosting a giveaway for a copy of Between the Covers, Wait for You, and a cute turtle necklace.

Be With Me Cover Reveal

12:08 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

Bookish Treasures released the cover and synopsis for the Be With Me today, the sequel to Wait for You. This book centers around Cam's sister, Teresa, and one of his best friends, Jase.

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not… What do you think?

Personally, with the exception of the "BE", I love it. I really love the couple. I think it's a great companion cover to the rest of the series and I love the blue. I'm kinda not feeling that box, too, and if you saw the original cover of Wait for You, you'd understand, but it's still pretty.

I can't wait to read it!

Between the pissed off creatures that want demon-hunter Lily Marks dead and the fallen angel who just...wants her, Lily is about ready to trade in forever for a comfy job in a cubicle farm. The fact that she and Julian are civil to one another is enough to have her thrown out of the Sanctuary, but she can't shake her not-so-angelic stalker or how he brings her dangerously close to ecstasy. Her forbidden relationship with Julian provides the perfect fuel for suspicion when a traitor is discovered to be working within the Sanctuary. Lily quickly finds herself hunted by well, everyone. Her only hope is to discover the real traitor before she loses everything--and she'll need Julian's help. That is, if Julian is really there to help her...and not destroy her. My Review of Unchained by J. Lynn

Yeah, being a Nephilim isn't everything it's cracked up to be.

Jennifer has tackled the Nephilim world and she has done it well, my friends! I loved Jen's take on the Nephilim, Fallen Angels, and the battle between them. She had a ton of important characters in this book, practically all of them insanely hot guys (I mean, seriously, she killed me with the number of hot guys in this one) who lent their respective roles to the mystery behind this book's plot. I felt like this book was very much character-driven, more so than her other novels, which was great, but I also have to say that the plot was a bit lackluster. Even though I enjoyed the story and felt that it flowed smoothly, there wasn't as much action and intrigue that is supposed to grab at me like I usually see in her novels. I usually feel an undeniable pull when I read Jen's books, Cursed being the only exception so far, and this one didn't really have it. Although I did love it more than Cursed.

Lily was a great female protagonist. I loved her snarkiness, always a key personality trait I've come to love and expect from any of Jen's girls. Not only that, the pint-sized girl can kick ass! I loved that, in a sea of big, strong, sexy men, the girl can hold her own and even knock some of them down a peg or two. She reminded me a lot of Alex from the Covenant series, and you all know how much I love her. This is all about Lily, being a Nephilim who hunts and kills fallen angels and their minions. Somewhere along the way, she realizes things aren't always black and white, especially in a war where she's basically told what to do without knowing all the facts. As she discovers that what she grew up believing may not be true and with the threat of a traitor in their midst, things unravel and secrets are uncovered, one in particular that really shocked me. Then again, it didn't surprise me once I really thought about it.

Ah, Julian! What can I say about this sexy angel of a man? From the very first moment I met him, until the very last page, I was hooked! Man, Jen can create some seriously swoonworthy men! And the fact that each guy can stand apart from each other, in their own sexy, lovable ways; she is the Queen of Swoon. You can sense the attraction and raw sex appeal from the get-go, but throughout the story, you also see the passion, unconditional love, and understanding that Julian has for Lily. I really enjoyed their moments together and loved their dialogue. There is a lot of mystery surrounding Julian and we don't get too much in this introduction, but it's already enough to see his true colors and how significant he is to Lily's story. I loved that he was able to bring out hidden emotions in Lily and make her really see herself like no one else did.

As far as JLA reads go, it wasn't the most exciting, but I still really loved the characters and the writing. Jen is the master of snarky inner monologues, witty dialogue, and engaging characters. Since she wrote this book so long ago (2008) and has yet to write the other two in the series, I'm curious to see how they'll go, how it'll differ in style, or if she has it all mapped out yet. I definitely enjoyed Unchained enough to continue with the series and have high hopes for the plot, in general. If anything, I know Lily will keep me entertained and Julian will continue to make me swoon and sigh for him. Umm, Jen? Can I have a Julian of my own, please?

Covenant Read-Along: Week 8

Missed last week's discussion? You can find it here.

REMEMBER: In order to be eligible for the prizes, you must SIGN UP and then answer the questions via the Google Form below.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Deity, Chapters 12-23.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

Oh, boy! What an EPIC set of chapters! SO much happens! SO many FEELS!!!! First off, when Telly and Alex have their talk, let me tell you, I wanted to punch him so hard! Ugh! That man irks me! But, my girl Alex held it together. And when Aiden saw what happened?! Sigh...this was one of the times when Aiden's character really shined. The many ways that Aiden opened up to Alex, you can't help but swoon over the man. He is SWOON, defined! Oh, and when Alex was bleeding out?! Honestly, why does it take a moment like that for a guy to realize he can't live without you?! Men!! But, I can't fault the sexy beast, because he more than makes up for it afterwards. Oh, Chapter 22!!!!!! ALL THE FEELS, AIDEN!!! ALL. THE. FEELS. These two share some truly touching moments and it made for some truly memorable quotes. You can't help but root for them as a couple. Their love is palpable. It just leaps off the pages and into your heart. Once they finally come to terms with their feelings, it was great seeing them just talk and voice their thoughts and opinions to each other so freely. There was one scene, when they talk about just being there for each other and what love really means, I couldn't get enough of it. It was perfect seeing Alex be so strong and independent, Aiden so understanding and protective. They're equals. In love. Sigh...

Another one of my favorite moments would have to be when Alex was in the underworld. It was SO amazing to see an old friend and I loved how Jen described the underworld. And, seriously, what scene is funnier than when Alex meets Apollo for the first time?! Freaking hilarious! *POKE POKE*

I swear, it gets harder and harder to me to stop at the designated chapters every time! I was honestly cheesing the whole time I was reading these chapters, except maybe the Telly and stabbing scenes, lol. Truly enthralling writing that mesmerizes time and time again!

Here's what some readers had to say about Deity, Chapters 1-11:
Malia says "I began to loathe Seth, but I still had a little room of hope for him. I still do ... "

Borgild says "What I love most about the start of deity is that Alex and Aiden is spending more time together. Yey! I could't stand when they were fighting. And that Seth is leaving in the winter brake, it's a really good thing for Alex. Because with him gone she can think clearly, and she starts to question him more. And of course she's spending more time with Aiden without Seth being in the way. *Happy dance*"

Michelle says "I loved the library scene, it's been a while since we've seen full on Alex and Aiden banter and even that small line, "he offered to pay for art classes at one point. I punched him in the arm for that," just made me smile and remember how well they fit together before everything that happened. "

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Chapters 24-34 of Deity.

So what did you think of the book so far?

Cover Placeholder and Synopsis for Don't Look Back

11:02 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Jennifer released the synopsis and placeholder cover for her upcoming novel, Don't Look Back, today from Disney Hyperion.

Samantha is a stranger in her own life. Until the night she disappeared with her best friend, Cassie, everyone said Sam had it all-popularity, wealth, and a dream boyfriend. Sam has resurfaced, but she has no recollection of who she was or what happened to her that night. As she tries to piece together her life from before, she realizes it’s one she no longer wants any part of. The old Sam took “mean girl” to a whole new level, and it’s clear she and Cassie were more like best enemies. Sam is pretty sure that losing her memories is like winning the lottery. She’s getting a second chance at being a better daughter, sister, and friend, and she’s falling hard for Carson Ortiz, a boy who has always looked out for her-even if the old Sam treated him like trash. But Cassie is still missing, and the facts about what happened to her that night isn’t just buried deep inside of Sam’s memory-someone else knows, someone who wants to make sure Sam stays quiet. All Sam wants is the truth, and if she can unlock her clouded memories of that fateful night, she can finally move on. But what if not remembering is the only thing keeping Sam alive?

What do you think of the synopsis?

Jen says this about the cover "I CANNOT wait for you guys to see the cover. It's so creepy. OMG. It's a favorite of mine."! I'm excited!!!!

Covenant Read-Along: Week 7

REMEMBER: In order to be eligible for the prizes, you must SIGN UP and then answer the questions via the Google Form below.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Deity, Chapters 1-11.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

I am so excited to finally be starting Deity. A ton of crazy things happen in this book and I remember falling so in love with it. So the first 11 chapters was pretty good. I definitely get more of a foreboding feeling after reading all of the books so close together now. Also, I'm so mad at Seth. He kept so much from Alex, lying to her so many times. Why didn't I realize this before?! Not that I didn't see it, I guess, it's just, I think I was more accepting of Seth's flaws and even now, I still have hope that he'll redeem himself in Sentinel. I can see that, in his mind, he believes that what he's doing is right, as opposed to Lucian, who is only looking out for himself. Anyways,  some highlights from these chapters include Alex finding out about her father, and how things progress with Alex and her friends (Luke and Olivia). Also, I can't forget about Aiden. Sigh...

Here's what some readers had to say about Pure, Chapters 14-27:
Heather Self says "Mother lovin SETH!! Grrr...he needs to take a flying freaking leap!! Choke on his own Akasha. DO. NOT. LIKE." (LMAO!)

Michelle says "I loved chapters 14-27, especially seeing the characters in the New York Covenant, out of their usual habitat and somewhere which they weren't as comfortable in. The tense relationship between Alex and Aiden was so frustrating to read and all the Seth and Alex scenes felt kinda wrong - but it also explores Alex and her relationships which was, interesting to say the least."

Mary Perez says "I am 100% #TeamAiden. But I gotta say I definitely enjoyed Alex and Seth's bonding in this novel. It added an extra hilariousness during the seriousness of situations."

Jennifer's favorite quote is "Stop shaking it like it's a damn Etch-A-Sketch, That doesn't make them disappear"

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Chapters 12-23 of Deity.

Origin Blog Tour: Character Interview with Katy

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 4 Comments

Buy it on Amazon or Barnes & Noble

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.

After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.

All Katy can do is survive.

Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?

Together, they can face anything.

But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?

And will they even be together?

*Interview with Katy*

1. What is the wildest daydream and/or fantasy you've ever had about Daemon? And feel free to divulge all the explicit details, I don't mind.

There’s no way I’m going to touch that question because Daemon might read my answers. He’s already cocky enough, and my answer would just make him impossible to be around.

2. What is the one thing you love most about Daemon? The one thing you hate the most?

I love Daemon’s loyalty to his family and to me. I hate that he’s arrogant to the point of being obnoxious sometimes.

3. What did your experiences in Daedalus teach you? How has it changed you mentally? What is the one good thing that came out of that, if any?

I’m sure that the experience changed me in a lot of ways, but, mostly, it’s just made me more determined to try to protect Daemon and his family. I learned that Onyx sucks, and it can kick any one of our asses. That knowledge helped me know that I needed to be more prepared to deal with the Daedalus, we all did.

4. What do you think is the coolest hybrid ability you have and what other power do you wish you had?

It’s pretty cool to be able to move things without touching them. I used to roll my eyes at Daemon for refusing to get up for the TV remote, but I’ve got to admit that it’s great to be able to send a book that I want to read flying right into my hand.

5. What is the one thing you miss the most from your life before meeting Daemon & the Luxen and why?

I miss reading and blogging because it seems like I haven’t gotten to do either very often since I moved in next door to Daemon.

6. Any idea what we can expect from here on out dealing with the Luxen, Arum, Daedalus, and, of course, you and Daemon? How do you hope this will all end?

I’m not sure what to expect. As much as I want to be with Daemon, I don’t want him to risk himself to find me. I don’t doubt that he’s going to do it, though, because he’s Daemon.
