He’s arrogant, domineering, and—To. Die. For… Hunter is a ruthless killer. The Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe him too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job, that is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: Protect a human from his mortal enemy. Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into a walking glow stick. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret. Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life…or is it Hunter?

My Review

Well, Jennifer has officially done it. She made me fall for an Arum! I didn't think it was possible, but she turned them into sexy beasts with a troubled and complicated history with the Luxen that I didn't realize existed. Hunter is an excellent leading male and once again JLA has created a swoonworthy guy that rivals the best of them. Obsession has such an exciting plot and we even get a glimpse of a key Luxen here and there, which I totally smiled at.

My favorite part of this book, besides Hunter, of course, was really how JLA made me understand and respect the Arum. Sure, they're the bad guys, but then again, the Luxen aren't exactly the good guys. Say what?! Everything you thought you knew about the Luxen and Arum takes a complete turn after reading Obsession. I used to think they were mindless bad guys who just went around sucking the life and ligth out of Luxen, never caring who got in their way. The truth of the matter is so much more and JLA really painted a different picture of the Luxen in this book, which I loved. You also get a glimpse of what's to come in Origin (as this book takes place after Opal), Book 4 in the Lux series, although you really don't need to read that series to get this book or vice versa.

Now, about Hunter. Oh, you delicious, sexy Arum, you! He is definitely a bad boy, but he does the bad boy thing so well, you can't help but be attracted to him. Sure, he got on my nerves sometimes. He is definitely not a nice guy in any way, but when his feelings for Serena start to grow you see him slowly change and do/say things that are pretty surprising and I loved watching the change she brought out in him. There is definitely an instant attraction, even though he's arrogant and cocky, he's got that appeal you can't turn away from. In all truth though, it takes you a minute to warm up to him, but once you do, it hits you like lightning and you're never the same again.

Obsession will leave you wanting more. I seriously hope JLA continues with this side of the story because it has so much potential, not just with Hunter and Serena's story, but with the Arum in general. As with all of JLA's books, this one was hard to put down. Obsession grabs you right from the start, teases you with a sexy beast like Hunter, and thrills you with action, murder, and intrigue. All fans of the Lux series, or JLA fans in general will easily devour this book. Hell, anyone who loves a captivating story, amazing writing, and irresistable characters will love this book.
