Covenant Read-Along: Week 14

12:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Welcome to Week FOURTEEN (the LAST week!!!) of The Covenant Series Read-Along. I can't believe it's practically over and that Sentinel is releasing in a few days!!!

If you want to know more about the Read-Along, sign up for it, and get all the details, check out this page here. You'll find links to all the weekly posts on that page, too.

Missed last week's discussion? You can find it here.

REMEMBER: In order to be eligible for the prizes, you must SIGN UP and then answer the questions via the Google Form below.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Apollyon, Chapters 31-37.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read:

Well, that was a heavy set of final chapters. From the battle with the automatons to the discovery of which God is behind all this - it was just pure awesome. It was a good mix of sad and sweet times, even an Alex and Aiden time thrown in for good measure. But boy, that scene with the God was intense. I really felt for Alex. And afterwards, I'm just so curious as to what it all means - what Asclepius said, all of Alex's ominous gut feelings, and a surprise visit from a familiar face with some curious looks and such. I can't wait for Sentinel now!

There are TWO forms below for you to fill out, one regarding the last few chapters we all read in Apollyon and other for your thoughts on the Read-Along as a whole. I'd love to know your feedback and thoughts on this. I'll have the WRAP-UP post up some time next week, most likely Thursday or Friday (although I'll probably contact the winners before then to get names and details for personalization of books), after I tally up the results, work out all the prize details, and tie up loose ends.

REMEMBER: You only have until Nov. 6th to answer this and any of the other questions you may have missed. Sorry that the time is cramped for the last set of questions, but I'll definitely need enough time to tally up results for the trivia questions and such.

If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments or email me. I'll discuss all my thoughts and anything else I have to say in the WRAP-UP post! See you then!

Sentinel Tour: Deity Day

12:00 AM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

"History is on repeat, and things didn't go so well the last time. "

Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...
JLA Mini Interview

For JLA - Deity lets the Gods out of the bag. Who’s your favorite God to write and why? Apollo. I just really enjoyed writing his character because of his personality.

For Alex - The vanishing act of Apollo is sorta fun but his timing can be annoying. If he wasn’t a God and still pulled that trick, what would you do to him? Oh, I would kick his ass. I’m tempted to try it, God or not.

For Aiden – What was your reaction to finding out the truth about Leon? I was surprised, but given the situation in which I found out, I couldn’t even focus on Leon. I was too focused on Alex at that moment.

For Apollo – Were there ever any times that you wanted to intervene but didn’t to protect your identity? Yes, that girl needs a full time babysitter. I tried to be around, especially when I knew Aiden wasn’t with her, and I did intervene a few times without revealing my identity.

Covenant Read-Along: Week 13

Welcome to Week THIRTEEN of The Covenant Series Read-Along.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Apollyon, Chapters 22-30.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

Ah, the cave scene! Easily one of my favorite scenes from the whole series. If you read it, you'd understand. I really enjoyed Alex and Aiden's time in the Underworld. I think Jen did a good job putting her own spin to it while keeping to the original myths. I especially love how she described Persephone! After that, things are pretty much set up for the final, exciting scenes of the book. I also loved the scene where Deacon talks to Alex, discussing just how important she is to Aiden and all that good stuff. I adore Deacon. Another good part? Seeing Alex go all "fierce Apollyon" on some Sentinels who were trying to start trouble. I loved it!

Here's what some readers had to say about Apollyon, Chapters 11-21:
Borghild says "The car ride was one of my favorite moments of these chapters. Just some good Alex and Aiden time, before everything goes to hell, literally. "Alex..." He leaned toward the window, avoiding the dangerous second bun. "Come on." "Eat it," I ordered, holding it with two hands now, making it dance in the air. "It's begging you. 'Eat me'.""

One of Jennifer's favorite quotes was "His voice dropped low. “I’m being what?” Infuriating. Stubborn. Thick-skulled. Freaking sexy. “Good gods, can we stop arguing and just, I don’t know, make out?”"

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Chapters 31-37 of Apollyon.

So what did you think of the book so far?

My Review of Trust in Me by Jennifer L. Armentrout

9:00 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

Add it on Goodreads
Buy it on Amazon | Barnes & Noble

It’s Wait for You as you’ve never seen it. Trust in Me lets you in on Cam’s side of the #1 New York Times Bestselling story.

Cameron Hamilton is used to getting what he wants, especially when it comes to women. But when Avery Morgansten comes crashing into his life – literally – he finally meets the one person who can resist his soulful baby blues. But Cam’s not ready to give up. He can’t get the feisty and intriguing girl out of his head.

Avery has secrets, secrets that keep her from admitting the feelings Cam knows she has for him. Will persistence (and some delicious homemade cookies) help him break down her barriers and gain her trust? Or will he be shut out of Avery's life, losing his first real shot at the kind of love that lasts forever?

Oh, boy! Trust in Me made me fall in love with Cam all over again and even more so than I did the first time around. That is one sweet, considerate, and super-sexy boy JLA has created there! Just when you think Cam is amazing, you get in his head, realize what he's thinking when he does the things that he does, the way he feels and reacts to Avery, and just his general personality; all that and more just shoots him right to top of the Book Boyfriend mountain.

Probably one of the best things about this book was getting to see Jase and Ollie more. I adore Cam's friends and it was nice seeing their relationships and understanding more about their dynamic. I loved the conversations that Jase and Cam had, seeing some of the depths of their friendship and learning how Jase helped Cam through that rough time in his life. And Ollie is just the right amount of humor and lightness that every story needs. I will say that Avery bugged me more so in this book. I think it was just different being outside her head and I didn't like her how she acted, even though we all know why she is the way she is. It just comes off as a bit much and I have to give Cam credit for being so persistent and dedicated in his pursuit of her. The guy is pretty good.

This goes without saying, but if you've read Wait for You, you'll definitely want to read Trust in Me. I'd advise you, maybe, not to read it directly afterwards though, because it's pretty much the same story (or you could alternate chapters for something fun and different - I'd like to know if anyone does this). Being in Cam's head was all kinds of awesome and, if anything, it helps ease the pain of waiting for Be With Me (Jase & Teresa's story). I really enjoyed this one!

A Few Teasers, A Release Date, and a Giveaway

5:22 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

It's Teaser Time!

Jen released the 4th teaser for Trust in Me, which releases next week! Excited, yet?

I let go as she shook her head and was in the process of heading upstairs to wake up Jase’s lazy ass when Teresa came in the front door.
“Cam!” She let out a high-pitched squeal when she saw me in the foyer and dropped her book bag. The pint-sized terror took one step and launched herself at me.
Laughing, I caught her before she knocked me down. “Well, hello to you.”
“When did you get here?” she asked once I sat her down.
“This morning.”
She smacked my arm. “You should’ve texted me! I would’ve skipped my afternoon classes and come home early.”
“I heard that!” yelled Mom from the kitchen.
Teresa rolled her eyes, and I laughed. Somewhere in the last two years or so, she’d grown up from a gangly child into a stunning young woman. And every time I saw her, I wanted to pull a paper sack over her head. Everywhere she went, guys looked, and they really looked.
She had inherited the dark hair and blue eyes from Dad, but she had Mom’s delicate features. Her beauty and small frame were really misleading, because she had also developed mom’s snappy, quick wit. When she and Mom got going, no one was safe.
“I’m going to skip dance tonight,” she said, tugging the tie from her hair. It seemed to have grown overnight, falling well past her shoulders.
“You don’t have to do that,” I told her. “I’ll be here all weekend.”
“Yeah, but I never get to see you!” She pouted, giving me the look that probably got her a lot of things. “You’re too busy and too cool to hang out with your sister anymore.”
“Exactly,” I said, grinning.
She smacked my arm hard. “Jerk.”
Facing the stairs, I saw Jase come down before Teresa did. He was as quiet as a freaking ninja and he came to a stop at the bottom, his hair damp and clothing unwrinkled. He hadn’t made a sound, but Teresa stiffened in front of me. Her eyes, so like mine, widened a fraction of an inch.
My gaze narrowed on her.
Teresa whipped around with the elegance of a dancer, and I cringed when she shrieked, “Jase!”
The pensive look that had been on Jase’s face from the moment I picked him up vanished like a bad nightmare. He came down on the landing a second before my sister threw herself at the guy, greeting him in the same way she’d done with me. His eyes were only on her, and while I completely trusted Jase, even he wasn’t immune to her.
I also didn’t like it when he wrapped his arms around her, keeping them both from tumbling backward.
“Cam didn’t tell me you were here!” she cried, clinging to him like a little monkey. “You’re staying here the whole weekend, too?”
Jase smiled down at the top of Teresa’s head—the head that was currently plastered against his chest. “Yeah, I’m here until Cam heads back.”
I knew in that exact moment, Teresa would be bowing out on dance not only tonight, but also the rest of the weekend. I sighed. Teresa said something that only Jase could hear and his smile spread in a way that had me taking deep, even breaths. Then he looked up, his gaze meeting mine. He shot me a helpless look, and I rolled my eyes, strolling forward.
“Okay.” I grabbed her arms, physically lifting her away from Jase. “I think you can let him go now. He probably wants to breathe at some point.”
Jase laughed as Teresa shot me a look that promised death and dismemberment and yanked her arms free. I stepped back, just in case she was going to try to hit me again. My sister had muscles.

Jen also teased fans with a sekrit project she's working on:

I don't know about you, but I love it already!

ICYMI, Jen announced the tentative release date for Opposition, the fifth and final book in the Lux series - August 5, 2014. I can't wait!

Finally, in addition to the Trust in Me teaser, Jen has yet another giveaway, naturally!

Covenant Read-Along: Week 12

Missed last week's discussion? You can find it here.

REMEMBER: In order to be eligible for the prizes, you must SIGN UP and then answer the questions via the Google Form below.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Apollyon, Chapters 11-21.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

I thought these chapters were a nice set up into what will happen next. It was also a bit of normalcy amidst all the chaos going on outside and after all the "Evil Alex" stuff. I loved watching Alex interact with Laadan and Marcus, reminiscing about her parents and such. There's even a bit of Seth-time thrown in there to mix it up a bit, which doesn't go over lightly with Aiden. It killed me when Alex and Aiden had to face off one of the wards at the gate. Poor Aiden! That guy has got some inner demons he has to deal with. I love the last few chapters of this batch, and the next few of the next batch, because it's just Alex & Aiden against the world!

Here's what some readers had to say about Apollyon, Chapters 1-10:
Borhild says "Okay, let me just start of with Evil Alex. I defiantly don't like Evil Alex. "My Seth?!" Ugh, that's just wrong on so many levels. Though I have to say Evil Alex was quite funny sometimes when she and Aiden talked. And it was heartbreaking to see that Alex was still in there and fighting to get out."

Stephanie Zhang says "Fave moment: uh when Alex comes back of course. And what happened just a little after that"

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Chapters 22-30 of Apollyon.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Apollyon, Chapters 1-10.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

These first few chapters were pretty rough. You get a very different Alex. I will say that the whole "my Seth" thing really made me cringe. Alex's reaction to that was pretty hilarious, though. I really loved Aiden through all this. Then again, when don't I love Aiden?! But his dedication and belief in Alex continues to shine through and seeing how deep their relationship is really warms my heart. Sigh, admittedly, Seth is working my nerves more and more as the pages fly by. I definitely don't like the truths he slowly spilling to Alex and I hate that he's still keeping things from her. I loved that we get to see another God and some familiar faces are make appearances during these chapters, too.

Here's what some readers had to say about Elixir:
Richa says "It really broke my heart to see how corrupted Seth has become. I really liked him before Elixir. Even in Deity I felt there was hope. But after this, I wasn't so sure."

Borghild says "That guy is just perfect. I thought he was perfect before, but the more I read about him, the more perfect he becomes. He's just flawless."

Michelle says "My favourite part of Elixir was probably when Alex broke the connection, even if it was only for a few seconds, because it just showed us again how much of a fighter Alex is and how Aiden can bring out the best in her."

One of Jennifer's favorite quotes was"Aiden has gone Rambo on us."

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Chapters 11-21 of Apollyon.

Trust in Me Teasers 2&3 Plus a Giveaway

10:06 AM Vi Win Win 0 Comments

I was away for an extended weekend with the family so I couldn't report when Jen released another Trust in Me teaser & a giveaway on Friday, but here is the teaser, ICYMI:

“Tomorrow night? Oh! The astronomy assignment. Yeah, it works for me.”
“Good.” I backed away, knowing I needed to get my ass to class. “See you then.”
Shortcake turned and then pivoted back to me. “Cam?”
The knot pulsed in my chest. “Yeah?”
She fiddled with her bracelet as her gaze flicked away before settling back on me. “What were you doing in the Den? Don’t you normally have class, like right now?”
I smiled as I held her gaze. “Yeah, I normally have class right now, but I wanted to see you.”
Shock splashed over her face, and then I saw the smile light up her eyes before it even hit her lips. Feeling that knot do a funny, twisting thing, I pivoted around before I grabbed her and kissed her.
Because I was really close to doing that.
I made it across the street before a low whistle caught my attention. Looking toward the left, I saw Jase standing under a tree, cell phone in hand. Damn. He must’ve hightailed his ass from West Campus.
“Skipping class without me?” he asked as I made my way over to him, his eyes obscured by the aviator shades he was wearing. Very few people could pull off those sunglasses without looking like a douche. I was not one of them.
I shrugged as my attention drifted beyond Jase’s shoulder, across the street, catching one last glimpse of Shortcake disappearing through the doors of Knutti Hall.
Jase sighed. “You’re obsessed.”
“Huh?”
He nodded toward Knutti. “I don’t think you’ve ever skipped a class to hang out with a girl before.”
I frowned. “How do you know I skipped a class to hang out with Avery?”
His brows rose above the sunglasses. “I’m not stupid."
“That’s up for debate.”
Jase flipped me off. “Well, let’s see. Class let out early, so I came over here just in time to see you walking along like a good little boy. I called your name. You waved at me and kept going—or staring at her.”
My brows lifted as I wheeled around, heading for the doors. “That was you yelling my name?”
“Exactly,” he said, sighing. He looked at me, and all I saw was my face in his sunglasses. “Has she agreed to go out with you yet?”
“Nope.”
Jase shook his head. “Man, you are so fucked when it comes to this girl.

Jen posted yet another teaser yesterday along with yet another giveaway. Man, this lady has TONS to give away, I love it! She's awesome, isn't she?

And boy, all these teasers! Can't wait to read the whole thing!

I kissed her, pressing my lips to hers, working at the seam of her mouth until she opened, allowing me in. The taste of her skin had sparked a fire deep inside me, but the feel of her warm mouth ignited a blazing fire. I couldn’t get enough of her lips, of her kisses or the soft, breathy sounds she was making.
I groaned as I slid my hand out from underneath her, guiding her onto her back. Her body immediately stiffened, and I knew I needed to tone it down. The last thing I wanted was to scare her.
God, that was the last thing.
Cupping her cheek, I softly kissed her until her body relaxed under mine and then, shocking the hell out of me, her small hand ended up under my shirt, pressing against the bare skin of my abs.
It was like being branded.
Heat roared through my veins as my body jerked on reflex. Air punched from my lungs. She wanted to touch me? Holy hell, she could touch me. I pulled back, reached down and yanked my shirt over my head.
Avery’s mouth parted as her gaze moved over my chest, the tattoo, and then down. It was like a touch, but better. My body was burning to feel hers.
I tugged the comforter down and planted my hands on either side of her head, tangling them in her hair. There was a primal part that took over when her hands flattened over the lower part of my stomach. My entire body tightened.
I dropped my forehead to hers. “You have no idea what you do to me.”

New Book Titles & A Sentinel Teaser

9:19 PM Vi Win Win 1 Comments

There were a couple updates from Jen over the last few days, in case you missed it, like,

the titles of two of her upcoming books:

I'm feeling the title to Book 2 in the Dark Elements. Sounds dangerous! I can't wait to read this series!

I really like the title, the only thing? I think Wait for You is the odd man out, lol. But then again, that just makes it extra special, you know what I mean?

and a Sentinel teaser:

Lol, oh Alex, you're so hilarious!

Covenant Read-Along: Week 10

Welcome to Week TEN of The Covenant Series Read-Along.

Now, let's discuss what you read during the week, Elixir.

Here's what I thought about the chapters I read so far:

Oh, Aiden, way to tug at my heartstrings and really make wanna ugly cry for you! I swear, Jen packs quite a punch in about 80 pages! Sigh, it just breaks my heart knowing that Aiden's heart is breaking over Alex's ordeal. Having to do the one thing she hates most, just to help save her, that really blows. I loved being inside Aiden's head, even though it was during an emotional time. If you didn't love Aiden already (and really, how could you NOT?!), you will after reading this! Sigh, Aiden, WHY YOU NO REAL?!?!

Here's what some readers had to say about Deity, Chapters 24-34:
Mary Perez says "I thought Aiden couldn't get any better, but JLA proved me wrong once again in this novel. Deity has got to be my favorite novel in this series. It had everything I needed plus loads of smexy Aiden scenes"

Jennifer says "Seth made me so sad in this part of the book, he turned so creepy and I was actually worried for Alex. Damn Lucian and his brainwashing tactics, come back to us Seth!!!"

Borghild says ""I wouldn't say okay." Aiden grinned. "He actually punched me when he figured it out." Hahaha! Marcus punched him, that's so funny."

Michelle says "My favourite scene was probably the fight scene, where everything was super tense and Alex still tried to show Seth the good in him. My other favourite scene, was when they were at the cabin after the fight, where everything was, for a bit, calm and back to normal; the rose necklace was just so sweet of Aiden as well."

Richa says "The best part? Aiden and Alex's relationship. It's so amazing to see how much they care for each other and how they'd willingly sacrifice themselves for the other."

Be sure to come back here next Friday to discuss the chapters we read and answer some questions for your chance at winning some pretty cool prizes!

Next up, we'll be reading Chapters 1-10 of Apollyon.

So what did you think of the book so far?
